West McDonald is the #4 ranked influencer in the Top 100 Influencers in the Managed Print Channel and Chief Noise Maker at Tigerpaw Software. His passion is helping his friends and partners find answers by asking questions while keeping an eye on helping their businesses grow in both new and innovative ways. I spoke with West a while back and had a few great takeaways around consolidation, passion, and future sight from our conversation. I wanted to share those with you here.
Consolidation:
Across all sectors consolidation is not only occurring, its speeding up. From Private Equity firms doing arbitrage plays across multiple sectors, to small businesses looking to have a simplified vendor list, there is a strategic focus on economies of scale and simplicity that creates opportunity for those who are willing to embrace the trend and pivot their business offerings to match the desire.
Passion:
West has a passion for volunteerism, that has recently led to the team at Tigerpaw taking stewardship of the Managed Print Alliance from CompTIA. That stewardship has led to an increased capability to wield a megaphone in that particular space, as well as increased access to leaders in that market channel from whom West can listen and learn from.
Future Sight:
Technology is moving faster than it ever has. New focus on services, especially those that help business leaders create and achieve better outcomes are in demand and will command a premium price, but only from those that accurately read the economic tea leaves. Focusing on reading current conditions as well as analyzing patterns and trends will serve the modern entrepreneur well in today’s rapidly shifting market.
I gain so much value from meeting with fellow entrepreneurs and leaders. Each and every person I speak with brings their own experiences, knowledge, and viewpoints to the table, and without fail, I walk away with a head full of ideas and motivation to do better in my own business.
